EDi was awarded a time and material subcontract by Shaw E&I, under a prime contract to the USACE, to conduct a radiological characterization and a MARSSIM final status survey of a laboratory facility located near Denver, CO. The known contaminates of concern were 14C, 55Fe, 241Am, 63Ni, 244Cm, 90Sr, 226Ra, 228Ra, Tritium, and U-Nat. The affected area of the facility encompassed over 700 square meters and included 5 laboratory rooms. EDi assisted Shaw E&I in the preparation and implementation of a comprehensive characterization and final status survey plan. The plans were approved and accepted by the USACE, the USEPA, and the NRC. After the appropriate approvals were obtained, EDi assembled a field team of qualified technicians to conduct a comprehensive beta and gamma survey of the affected laboratories.
EDi survey teams performed a 100% beta/gamma survey of each laboratory room to include smear samples to quantify transferable contamination. Areas/equipment found to exceed approved release limits were appropriately delineated and/or tagged. EDi also provided decontamination support services.
EDi implemented a comprehensive Radiation Protection Program (RPP). The success of the program is exemplified in that there were no cases of personnel contamination; no breach of contamination control measures; and radiation exposures were well below the allowable limits provided in 10CFR20.
EDi's role in the project was crucial to the overall success of our client and the USACE. The project was completed on time and within budget."
